Comparative Philosophy and Religious Traditions (CPRT) is a fully open access scholarly journal committed to the immediate and unrestricted availability of published research. All articles are made freely accessible online upon publication, without subscription charges, registration requirements, or reader access fees. The journal supports the long-term accessibility, responsible reuse, and international dissemination of scholarship in comparative philosophy and religious traditions.

CPRT regards open access as an essential means of advancing scholarly communication, enabling interdisciplinary exchange, and extending access to philosophical and religious research beyond institutional and geographical boundaries. By removing subscription barriers, the journal seeks to make research available to scholars, educators, students, independent researchers, and interested readers worldwide.

The journal combines immediate open access with clearly defined copyright arrangements, transparent publication charges, author self-archiving rights, and commitments to responsible scholarly dissemination.

License Terms

Articles published in CPRT are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This licence permits broad dissemination and reuse while requiring acknowledgement of the original creators and the source of publication.

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International

Licence: CC BY 4.0

Official licence: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Under CC BY 4.0, users may:

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the licensed material in any medium or format.
  • Adapt: Remix, transform, translate, and build upon the material.
  • Reuse commercially: Use the licensed material for commercial as well as non-commercial purposes.

Reuse is subject to the following requirements:

  • Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given to the original author or authors, with acknowledgement of the source and other required attribution information.
  • Licence reference: A link to the CC BY 4.0 licence must be provided where reasonably practicable.
  • Indication of changes: Users must indicate whether the original material has been modified.
  • No implied endorsement: Attribution must not suggest that the original authors or publisher endorse the user or the manner in which the material has been reused.
  • No additional restrictions: Users must not impose legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising the rights granted by the licence.

The CC BY 4.0 licence applies to material covered by the article's stated licence. Images, illustrations, extracts, archival materials, or other third-party content may be subject to separate copyright arrangements where expressly indicated. Users are responsible for obtaining any additional permission required for reuse of material excluded from the Creative Commons licence.

The licence permits translation and adaptation but does not remove the scholarly obligation to acknowledge sources accurately or distinguish the original authors' arguments from subsequent interpretations, modifications, or translations.

Copyright Policy

Authors retain copyright in their original scholarly work. Publication in CPRT does not require authors to transfer ownership of their copyright to the journal or publisher.

By agreeing to publication, authors grant CPRT the non-exclusive right of first publication and authorise the journal to publish, disseminate, and identify itself as the original publisher of the work. Authors also agree to the distribution of the published article under CC BY 4.0, subject to any separately identified third-party rights.

Subject to appropriate attribution and applicable third-party rights, authors may:

  • Deposit the published Version of Record in institutional, disciplinary, or other scholarly repositories.
  • Make their articles available on personal websites, institutional profiles, and academic platforms.
  • Share, reproduce, and distribute their published research in accordance with the licence.
  • Incorporate previously published material into future scholarly works, books, teaching resources, or other publications, subject to appropriate acknowledgement and any applicable contractual obligations.
  • Authorise further use of their own copyrighted contributions without requiring additional permission from CPRT, subject to rights already granted and any relevant third-party restrictions.

No embargo period applies to the deposit or sharing of published articles. Authors are encouraged to provide a complete bibliographic citation and a link to the final publication record when redistributing their work.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

CPRT applies an article processing charge to support the editorial and technical services associated with open access publication. The charge is payable in connection with the publication of an accepted article, subject to the journal's applicable waiver and discount arrangements.

Standard Article Processing Charge

USD 500

Per accepted article. No submission fee or peer-review fee is charged.

The standard APC is USD 500 per accepted article. Authors are not charged merely for submitting a manuscript or for having it evaluated through the editorial and peer-review process.

The journal's APC arrangements are governed by the following principles:

  • Fee transparency: Applicable publication charges are disclosed on the journal website before manuscript submission.
  • No submission or review charges: Manuscripts may be submitted and evaluated without payment of submission or peer-review fees.
  • Waiver and discount arrangements: Authors may request financial assistance through the journal's published APC & Waiver Policy.
  • Editorial independence: Scholarly evaluation and editorial decisions are based on academic merit and must not be influenced by an author's ability to pay publication charges.

Waivers or discounts may be considered for authors from low- and middle-income countries and for applicants experiencing other qualifying circumstances, in accordance with the criteria established in the APC & Waiver Policy. Requests are assessed under the applicable policy and do not automatically guarantee financial assistance.

Authors should consult the journal's separate APC & Waiver Policy for detailed information on eligibility, requests for financial assistance, applicable payment procedures, and any additional conditions.

Archiving and Digital Preservation

CPRT recognises that open access publishing involves responsibilities extending beyond the initial publication of scholarly articles. Continued accessibility, accurate publication records, and the responsible preservation of research outputs are important to the long-term integrity of scholarly communication.

Published articles are made available through the journal's online publishing platform. The journal supports the continued availability of its scholarly content and encourages the distribution of authorised copies through institutional and subject repositories, in accordance with applicable open access and copyright provisions.

Authors may deposit published articles in external scholarly repositories without an embargo period. Repository distribution can contribute to wider discoverability and provide additional access routes to published research. However, repository deposit should not be interpreted as confirmation that a particular independent digital preservation service has archived the work.

For further information regarding the journal's current archiving arrangements, digital preservation procedures, or repository policies, please contact the editorial office at [email protected].

Self-Archiving Policy

CPRT supports author self-archiving and permits authors to share their scholarly work through personal, institutional, disciplinary, and other appropriate research platforms. The journal does not impose an embargo period on the deposit of published articles.

Authors may deposit or share the following manuscript versions:

  • Preprint: The author's manuscript before formal peer review, which may be made available through appropriate preprint repositories or other scholarly platforms.
  • Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM): The version accepted for publication following peer review and editorial revision, before final publisher copyediting and typesetting.
  • Version of Record (VoR): The final published article, including the journal's official publication metadata and any applicable corrections or updates.

Authors may make the Version of Record publicly available immediately upon publication, including the published PDF where provided by the journal. Preprints and accepted manuscripts may also be shared, subject to applicable copyright, confidentiality, and research-ethics requirements.

When depositing or redistributing a published article, authors should include the complete bibliographic citation, identify CPRT as the original publication venue, and provide a link to the official article record or DOI where available. Earlier manuscript versions should be clearly labelled to distinguish them from the final published version.

Self-archiving must respect the rights of third parties whose copyrighted material may be incorporated into the manuscript. The journal's self-archiving permissions do not override separate restrictions applicable to material that authors do not own or have not been authorised to redistribute.

Commitment to Open Scholarship

CPRT regards open scholarship as an important foundation for intellectual exchange across philosophical, religious, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries. The journal seeks to create opportunities for research to circulate beyond established academic centres and to contribute to broader conversations about philosophical inquiry, religious traditions, and global intellectual history.

Through its open access publishing model, CPRT supports:

  • Global knowledge exchange: Facilitating the international circulation of philosophical research and scholarship concerning religious traditions.
  • Academic accessibility and equity: Reducing subscription-related barriers to scholarly literature for readers and researchers across different institutional and economic settings.
  • Intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue: Encouraging critical engagement among philosophical schools, religious traditions, intellectual communities, and academic disciplines.
  • Public engagement with the humanities: Supporting access to scholarly discussions of ethics, metaphysics, religious experience, cultural interpretation, and related questions of wider intellectual significance.
  • Responsible reuse and scholarly continuity: Enabling appropriately attributed research materials to be shared, cited, translated, and developed within subsequent scholarship.

By supporting immediate access, author copyright retention, transparent publication conditions, and responsible reuse, CPRT seeks to strengthen the accessibility and intellectual value of scholarship in comparative philosophy and religious studies.

Our Commitment to Open Knowledge

CPRT is dedicated to advancing the free circulation of scholarly knowledge, protecting author rights, and fostering an inclusive international environment for philosophical inquiry and the comparative study of religious traditions.
