Western Medicine Frontiers
Section Scope
The Western Medicine Frontiers section of Health Nexus publishes rigorous and original scholarship in clinical medicine, biomedical sciences, translational research, medical technology, and public health. It provides a platform for advances in conventional (Western) medicine that contribute to scientific understanding, clinical decision-making, disease prevention, and healthcare delivery.
The section welcomes research conducted independently within Western medical disciplines, including clinical, laboratory-based, population-level, and methodological investigations. Comparative and interdisciplinary studies are also encouraged where scientifically appropriate. Integration with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is not a requirement for consideration. Manuscripts are evaluated on their scientific merit, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the section's scope.
1. Focus Areas
The section welcomes original and evidence-based contributions across a broad range of medical disciplines, including but not limited to the following areas:
- Precision Medicine and Genomics Personalized treatment strategies, genomic medicine, genetic risk assessment, pharmacogenomics, molecular biomarkers, and clinically relevant applications of genomic technologies.
- Innovative Therapeutics Drug discovery and development, biologic therapies, targeted interventions, immunotherapy, gene and cell therapies, and investigations of treatment efficacy, safety, and clinical effectiveness.
- Medical Technology and Artificial Intelligence Digital health, medical imaging, artificial intelligence and machine learning in healthcare, clinical decision-support systems, wearable devices, remote patient monitoring, and the evaluation of technological safety, reliability, and clinical utility.
- Surgical Innovation and Clinical Interventions Minimally invasive procedures, robotic-assisted surgery, regenerative and reconstructive approaches, perioperative care, intervention outcomes, and evidence-based improvements in surgical practice.
- Epidemiology and Public Health Infectious disease epidemiology, chronic disease prevention, population health, health promotion, disease surveillance, healthcare inequalities, and the evaluation of public health interventions and policies.
- Basic and Translational Medical Research Molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease, experimental medicine, biomedical discoveries, preclinical investigations, biomarker validation, and research translating laboratory findings into potential clinical applications.
2. Article Types Accepted
Western Medicine Frontiers considers manuscripts within the article categories established by Health Nexus. Submissions must satisfy the journal's general author guidelines and the specific requirements of their selected article type.
- Original Research Articles: Reports of original clinical, experimental, observational, epidemiological, or translational investigations, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and case-control studies.
- Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: Comprehensive and methodologically transparent syntheses of existing research evidence.
- Narrative Reviews and Perspectives: Critical reviews, state-of-the-art assessments, and scholarly perspectives on established or emerging developments in medical science.
- Clinical Case Reports: Clinically informative reports of individual cases or well-documented case series that offer meaningful diagnostic, therapeutic, or educational insights.
- Methodological and Theoretical Papers: Research introducing, evaluating, or refining scientific methods, clinical research frameworks, analytical approaches, or theoretical models.
- Short Communications: Concise reports presenting focused findings, preliminary investigations, emerging technologies, or scientifically significant observations.
- Editorials and Commentaries: Focused scholarly discussions of medical developments, clinical controversies, and published research, normally commissioned or approved by the Editorial Office.
Authors should consult the journal's Article Types and Author Guidelines for detailed manuscript preparation requirements.
3. Section Goals
Western Medicine Frontiers aims to advance scientific knowledge and support the responsible translation of biomedical discoveries into clinical and public health practice.
- Advance Evidence-Based Medical Knowledge: Publish scientifically robust research that improves understanding of disease, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and clinical outcomes.
- Support Clinical and Translational Innovation: Encourage the critical evaluation of emerging therapies, diagnostic technologies, medical interventions, and healthcare innovations.
- Promote Independent and Interdisciplinary Scholarship: Provide an academic platform for research conducted within Western medical disciplines while encouraging collaboration across relevant fields, including TCM, where scientifically justified.
- Contribute to Global Health and Equity: Disseminate research relevant to disease prevention, healthcare accessibility, patient safety, population health, and sustainable improvements in health systems.
4. Peer Review and Editorial Standards
Manuscripts submitted to Western Medicine Frontiers are evaluated under the editorial and publication policies of Health Nexus. The assessment process emphasizes scientific validity, methodological transparency, ethical responsibility, and the relevance of the reported findings.
- Initial Editorial Screening: All submissions undergo preliminary assessment for scope, originality, methodological adequacy, manuscript preparation, and compliance with publication policies. Manuscripts may be declined without external peer review.
- Double-Blind Peer Review: Research manuscripts selected for external review are evaluated under the journal's double-blind peer review model, normally by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Editorials and Commentaries may follow editorial assessment procedures appropriate to their category.
- Reporting Guidelines: Authors must follow reporting standards appropriate to their research design, including CONSORT for randomized trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews, and CARE for case reports, where applicable.
- Research Ethics: Studies involving human participants or animals must comply with applicable ethical review requirements. Informed consent, clinical trial registration, patient confidentiality, and research approvals must be appropriately documented where relevant.
- Research Integrity and Transparency: Authors must provide accurate reporting, appropriate data availability information, relevant funding and competing interest declarations, and disclosure of AI-assisted research or manuscript preparation where required by the journal's policies.
- Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are based on scientific and scholarly considerations. Acceptance is not guaranteed by successful initial screening or a favorable reviewer recommendation.
