Manuscript Preparation Framework
Authors preparing a submission for Resonance: Journal of Global Music Studies should follow the manuscript framework below. These guidelines are intended to support consistency, readability, anonymous peer review, ethical transparency, and compliance with the journal’s editorial standards.
General Formatting Requirements
Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word format, using Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and consistent page numbering. Authors should ensure that headings, citations, notes, references, figures, tables, and supplementary materials are formatted clearly and consistently before submission.
Title Page and Author Information
A separate title page should include the article title, author name, institutional affiliation, email address, corresponding author details, and a brief author biography. For anonymous review, this information must not appear in the manuscript file.
Declarations and Acknowledgments
The title page should also include, where applicable, Author Contribution, Compliance with Ethical Standards, Funding, Competing Interest Declaration, and Acknowledgments. These items should be kept separate from the anonymous manuscript.
Anonymous Manuscript
The anonymous manuscript should remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding information, self-identifying references, file names, and document properties that may reveal the author’s identity.
Main Text
The main text should present a clear research focus, coherent structure, appropriate section headings, sound methodology, and sustained engagement with relevant scholarship, sources, materials, or musical practices.
Notes and References
Citations, notes, and bibliographic entries should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition. Authors should apply one citation system consistently throughout the manuscript.
Non-English Manuscripts
For manuscripts written in Chinese, German, Italian, Russian, or any language other than English, authors should provide an English title, an English abstract of 150–200 words, and 4–6 English keywords after the reference list.
Figures, Tables, and Media
Musical examples, images, figures, tables, audio, video, appendices, and supplementary materials should be clearly numbered, captioned, labeled, and cited in the main text. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions where required.
Section-Specific Structure
Research articles, reviews, interviews, translations, performance notes, source texts, and creative or reflective submissions may follow different structures according to the purpose and conventions of the relevant journal section.
Required Information on the Title Page
Where anonymous review applies, the title page should be submitted separately from the anonymous manuscript. It should contain all author-identifying information and all relevant declaration statements required for editorial assessment.
Required or applicable items include: article title; author name; institutional affiliation; email address; corresponding author information; author biography; Author Contribution; Compliance with Ethical Standards; Funding; Competing Interest Declaration; and Acknowledgments.
Recommended Order for the Anonymous Manuscript
For English-language manuscripts: title; abstract; keywords; main text; notes, where applicable; references; appendices or supplementary materials, where applicable.
For manuscripts written in languages other than English: title in the manuscript language; main text; notes, where applicable; references; English title; English abstract; English keywords; appendices or supplementary materials, where applicable.
Ethical and Editorial Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript represents original work, that all sources are properly acknowledged, that permissions have been obtained for copyrighted materials, and that any ethical issues relating to fieldwork, interviews, archives, human participants, communities, or cultural materials are clearly addressed where applicable.
Final Checklist Before Submission
Before submitting, authors should confirm that the anonymous manuscript contains no identifying information, that the title page includes all required author details and declarations, that the reference list follows the journal’s citation style, and that all figures, musical examples, media files, and supplementary materials are properly labeled and cleared for use.
