Author Guidelines
Journal of Social Cognition and Communication welcomes original scholarly contributions that advance research at the intersection of social cognition, communication, media, and contemporary society. The journal publishes theoretical, empirical, and methodological studies that demonstrate strong academic rigor, conceptual clarity, and relevance to international scholarly discourse.
All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. Submissions should not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
The journal operates a double-anonymous peer review process. Authors must prepare manuscripts for anonymous review before submission.
1. Types of Contributions
- Research Articles – Original theoretical or empirical studies.
- Review Articles – Critical syntheses of existing research.
- Theoretical Papers – Conceptual or theoretical developments.
- Methodological Studies – Research methods, data approaches, or analytical frameworks.
- Short Communications – Brief reports or emerging research findings.
- Book Reviews – Scholarly assessments of relevant books.
2. Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts should be written in clear academic English and should normally include the following elements:
- Title
- Abstract: up to 300 words for most article types, or up to 150 words for Short Communications and Book Reviews. The abstract in the submission metadata must match the manuscript.
- Keywords (3–6 keywords)
- Main text
- References
- Tables and figures where applicable
Research articles are typically between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including references. Shorter or longer manuscripts may be considered depending on the nature of the contribution.
Research design and reporting
State the research question and explain its contribution to scholarship on social cognition and communication. Empirical studies should describe the setting, participants or materials, recruitment or selection, measures, procedures and analysis. Explain limitations and distinguish evidence from interpretation. Qualitative, computational and mixed-methods studies should identify the sources, analytical steps and decisions needed to understand the findings.
Describe ethics approval or the basis for exemption where applicable, consent procedures, and how privacy and confidentiality were protected. For research using online posts, platform data, interviews or audiovisual material, consider whether individuals can be identified and whether reuse requires consent or permission.
Files, declarations and revision
Provide a separate title page and an anonymised manuscript. Check file properties, acknowledgements, supplementary files and repository links for identifying information. Give funding, competing-interest and author-contribution statements, and explain access to research data or the reason for restrictions where relevant.
When revision is requested, submit the revised manuscript and a response addressing each substantive editorial and reviewer comment, identifying where changes were made and explaining any disagreement. For accepted work, check author names, affiliations, references, figures and permissions when reviewing proofs.
3. Anonymous Manuscripts
For double-anonymous review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgements and other identifying details from the main manuscript. Book Reviews are assessed editorially and are not sent for external peer review.
A separate title page should include the manuscript title, author names, institutional affiliations, corresponding author information, and any acknowledgements or funding information.
4. References and Citations
Use APA 7th edition consistently for in-text citations and the reference list. Check that each citation has a matching reference entry and that bibliographic details, quotations and identifiers are accurate.
Authors are responsible for verifying all sources cited in the manuscript.
5. Ethical Requirements
Submitted manuscripts must represent original work and must not contain plagiarism, fabricated data, or unethical research practices. Authors should comply with the journal’s publication ethics policies and disclose any conflicts of interest where applicable.
Where research involves human participants or sensitive data, authors should ensure that appropriate ethical approvals and consent procedures have been followed.
6. Open Access and Licensing
The journal publishes all articles under an open access model. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted sharing and reuse provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source.
7. Submission Process
Authors must submit manuscripts through the journal’s online submission system. The submission process typically involves the following steps:
- Manuscript submission
- Editorial screening
- Double-anonymous peer review
- Revision process (if required)
- Final editorial decision
8. Publication Frequency
The journal publishes two issues per year. Accepted articles are published after completion of the editorial and production process.
By submitting to the journal, authors confirm that they have read and agreed to the journal’s editorial policies, publication ethics standards, and open access licensing terms.
