To facilitate fair peer review and efficient editorial processing, IRELS requires authors to prepare manuscripts in accordance with the following formatting and structural guidelines.

1. General Format & File Specifications
  • File Type: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
  • Font & Spacing: Double-spaced, standard readable font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12-point).
  • Pagination: Pages should be numbered consecutively.
  • Recommendation: Line numbers are recommended to facilitate the review process.

2. Structure of the Manuscript

Manuscripts should normally include the following components, presented in this order:

  1. Title of the manuscript
  2. Abstract (normally 150–250 words; maximum 300)
  3. Keywords (4–6)
  4. Main text
  5. References
  6. Tables and figures (if applicable)
  7. Appendices (if applicable)

3. Title Page and Anonymity

Remove names and affiliations from file properties, comments, tracked changes and acknowledgements. Supply the title page and identifying declarations separately as requested by the submission system.

Describe the educational setting and methods with enough detail for assessment, while protecting identifiable information about students, teachers and institutions.

To support double-blind peer review, authors must ensure that the manuscript file contains no identifying information.

  • Do not include: Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or funding info in the Word file.
  • Submit separately: Such information should be entered in the OJS metadata fields during submission.

Detailed Component Guidelines

4. Abstract & Keywords

Abstract: Must clearly state the purpose, methods, and key findings (normally 150–250 words; maximum 300).
Keywords: Reflect main themes to support discoverability.

5. Tables & Figures

Must be numbered consecutively with titles/captions. All visuals must be cited in the text. High resolution is required for figures.

6. Referencing Style

Manuscripts should follow APA Style. Authors are responsible for accuracy; all in-text citations must appear in the reference list.

7. Language & Editing

Academic English is required. Non-native speakers are encouraged to seek professional editing. Language quality is a factor in initial assessment.

8. Supplementary Materials

Authors may submit supplementary materials (e.g., datasets, instruments) where relevant. These files should be clearly labeled and referenced in the main text.
