Copyright Ownership

Authors retain the copyright of articles published in Journal of Sport and Exercise Studies. The journal does not require authors to transfer copyright ownership as a condition of publication.

By submitting and publishing with the journal, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and the right to publish, distribute, archive, index, and make the article publicly available as part of the journal’s scholarly record.

Open Access License

Articles published in Journal of Sport and Exercise Studies are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License unless otherwise stated.

Under this license, users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, translate, adapt, reuse, and build upon the published work for any lawful purpose, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), the journal, and the source of publication.

Required Attribution

Any reuse, redistribution, adaptation, or reproduction of published content must include appropriate attribution. Proper attribution should include:

Author Rights

Journal Rights

By publishing in the journal, authors grant Journal of Sport and Exercise Studies a non-exclusive right to:

• Publish the article as the version of record;
• Distribute and archive the article online;

• Preserve the article in digital archives and repositories;
• Promote and disseminate the article as part of the journal’s academic content.

Third-Party Materials

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all third-party materials included in their manuscripts may be lawfully used, reproduced, adapted, or distributed. This includes, but is not limited to, images, figures, tables, photographs, screenshots, maps, diagrams, survey instruments, scales, copyrighted datasets, and substantial excerpts from previously published works.

If permission is required for third-party material, authors must obtain permission before submission or publication and must provide appropriate acknowledgements, source notes, or permission statements in the manuscript.

Exceptions to the License

Unless otherwise stated, the CC BY 4.0 license applies to the article text and original materials created by the author(s). Some third-party materials included in an article may be subject to separate copyright restrictions or licensing terms.

Where third-party content is not covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 license, this should be clearly indicated in the relevant caption, acknowledgement, or permission statement.

Self-Archiving Policy

Authors may deposit the submitted version, accepted version, or published version of record in institutional repositories, subject repositories, funder repositories, academic networking platforms, personal websites, and other lawful non-commercial or scholarly platforms.

When depositing or sharing the published version, authors should include full citation details and a link to the article on the journal website where available.

Use of Published Content

Readers, researchers, educators, institutions, and other users may reuse content published in the journal under the CC BY 4.0 license. Permitted uses include copying, sharing, teaching, translating, adapting, text and data mining, and inclusion in derivative works, provided that proper attribution is given.

Users must not imply that the author(s), the journal, the Editorial Office, or the publisher endorses the reuse, adaptation, product, service, or interpretation unless explicit written permission has been obtained.

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript does not infringe copyright, privacy rights, image rights, database rights, moral rights, contractual obligations, or other legal rights of third parties.

If copyright or licensing concerns arise before or after publication, the Editorial Office may request documentation, issue corrections, restrict access to specific materials, or take further editorial action in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

Copyright Infringement and Corrections

If a published article is found to contain material that infringes copyright or violates licensing terms, the journal may take appropriate action. Such action may include correction, removal of infringing material, publication of a notice, temporary restriction of access, or retraction where necessary.

The journal will consider each case according to the nature of the concern, the available evidence, the rights of affected parties, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
