JESA uses a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Author and reviewer identities are kept confidential during review, and submissions are normally evaluated by at least two qualified experts.

Review stages

  1. Initial screening: The editorial office checks scope, completeness, formatting, originality, and basic ethical requirements. This stage normally takes 2–3 weeks.
  2. Reviewer assignment: Appropriate reviewers are invited and assigned, usually within 1–2 weeks.
  3. Peer review: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript's contribution, methods, evidence, presentation, and relevance. The review stage normally takes 8–12 weeks.
  4. Revision: When revisions are requested, authors respond to each comment and submit a revised manuscript. A revision cycle may take 2–6 weeks.
  5. Final decision: The editor considers the reviews and the author's response before issuing a final decision, normally within 1–2 weeks after the review record is complete.
  6. Production: Accepted articles proceed through copyediting, proof review, and publication preparation, normally taking 2–3 weeks.

Decisions and publication schedule

Decisions may include acceptance, minor or major revision, or rejection. JESA accepts submissions on a rolling basis and publishes an annual electronic issue. The complete process may take approximately 4–6 months, depending on review and revision requirements.
