GRHAS considers requests for full or partial waivers of the USD 450 APC from authors who lack sufficient publication funding. Financial support is assessed separately from the scholarly evaluation of the manuscript.

Apply at submission

Email [email protected] with the manuscript title or submission identifier, corresponding author’s name, amount of support requested and a brief explanation of the funding available for publication. State whether institutional, grant or sponsor funds can cover part of the charge.

Explain the practical reason for the request. The office may seek relevant clarification to assess need and available support. Keep financial correspondence separate from the anonymised review manuscript.

Assessment and confirmation

Requests are considered individually in relation to financial circumstances and the support available. The editorial office confirms the outcome in writing and identifies the manuscript and reduction approved. A full waiver removes the APC; a partial waiver reduces it by the stated amount.

Retain the confirmation for invoicing. A request or preliminary discussion should be distinguished from a written award. Authors can clarify the likely financial arrangement before the editorial outcome.

Editorial independence

A waiver request does not change the standards for review or the handling editor’s judgement. The contribution, evidence, quality of reasoning and research integrity determine the editorial assessment.

If funding or payer circumstances change, contact the office to clarify the arrangement. Where the manuscript changes substantially or is submitted as a new article, ask whether the earlier confirmation continues to apply. Include the existing correspondence so the office can respond to the specific case.
