Copyright & Licensing
Authors retain copyright in their work. HNCBT publishes articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).
Publication rights
Authors authorize the journal to publish and identify the article as part of its scholarly record. Publication does not require transfer of author copyright to the journal. Authors must have the authority to license their original contribution and must resolve any employer, funder or contractual restrictions before publication.
Permitted reuse and attribution
CC BY 4.0 allows others to copy, distribute and adapt licensed material, including for commercial purposes. Reusers must credit the authors and source, provide a link to the license and indicate changes. Attribution must not imply endorsement of an adaptation. Reusers may not impose additional legal or technical restrictions that prevent others from exercising the licensed rights.
A suitable credit identifies the article title, authors, journal and publication details, includes the article link or persistent identifier, and states the license. The full legal terms of CC BY 4.0 govern reuse; this page provides a practical summary.
Third-party and protected material
Authors are responsible for permissions for reused figures, tables, images, questionnaires and other protected material. A third-party item not covered by the article license must carry a clear credit line identifying its source and the applicable restrictions. A license to reuse an article does not waive patient privacy, confidentiality, moral rights or other rights that may apply to the material.
Repositories and other outputs
Authors may deposit and share submitted, accepted and published versions without an embargo. After publication, provide the final citation and link to the version of record. Corrections or retractions should be reflected in repository records where possible. Separate datasets, software and protocols may use their own appropriate licenses; identify these explicitly rather than assuming that the article license automatically applies.
Licensing or permission questions should be raised with the Editorial Office before publication.
