Preservation concerns the continuing integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record. An online issue archive and an independent preservation deposit perform different functions.

Public archive and version integrity

The journal’s online archive is the public access point for published issues and articles. Published records should retain their bibliographic information, licence and associated supplementary material. Changes affecting the scholarly record should be documented through the journal’s Corrections & Retractions procedures rather than silent replacement of findings.

Maintaining access on the journal website supports availability, but it does not by itself establish an independent long-term preservation arrangement. Routine platform maintenance and backups should not be described as certified third-party preservation.

Independent preservation status

An active independent preservation arrangement has not yet been verified for JPOII. Accordingly, this page does not claim confirmed deposits in PKP Preservation Network, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS or another service. A software option or a provider’s general availability is not evidence that this journal’s content has been accepted and deposited.

Once an arrangement is activated and deposits can be verified, the journal will identify the provider, the material covered and any available evidence of participation or deposit status. If an arrangement changes, the coverage statement should be updated to distinguish previously preserved content from future deposits.

Author deposits and supplementary materials

Authors may deposit their CC BY 4.0 published articles in suitable repositories, retaining the article metadata and linking to the journal version. Research data, analytic code and supporting documents may require separate repositories and access conditions. An article deposit does not automatically preserve all of the underlying research materials.

Sensitive or confidential materials must remain subject to the controls described in the Research Data & Transparency policy. Preserve a useful public description of restricted materials without exposing identities or protected records.

Preservation enquiries

Questions about the availability of a published item, an inaccessible supplement or a preservation claim should be directed to the Editorial Office. Include the article link or persistent identifier and describe the missing or affected material.
