Preservation of the scholarly record requires more than keeping a webpage accessible. Article files, bibliographic information, supplementary materials, licences, and linked notices must remain identifiable so that readers can understand what was published and how its status has changed.

The publication record

The journal’s online archive provides the current access point for published content. Each article should be cited through its individual record, using the final publication details and persistent identifier where assigned. Files described as the Version of Record are distinguished from preprints, accepted manuscripts, and later corrected versions.

Substantive corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are documented through linked notices. Material affecting an article’s interpretation should not be replaced silently. Retraction normally preserves the original record with a clear status label so that citations and the reasons for editorial action remain traceable.

External preservation status

No named external preservation provider or verified deposit arrangement is currently confirmed on this page. A future preservation statement should identify the service, the content covered, and the conditions under which preserved material becomes accessible. Routine platform hosting or backup should not be represented as an independently verified long-term preservation arrangement.

Repository copies and supporting materials

Authors may deposit permitted versions in appropriate institutional or subject repositories. A repository copy should carry the article’s bibliographic information, indicate its version, and link to the journal record. When a correction is published, authors should update the repository description or add a link to the notice where the repository permits this.

Data, code, research instruments, and other supporting outputs may require their own repository records and documentation. Restricted participant data should be preserved in accordance with consent, institutional requirements, and applicable law, rather than deposited openly for the sake of completeness.

Readers who encounter an inaccessible file or broken article link should report the article details to [email protected]. See also Research Data and Corrections.
