Book Reviews is a dedicated scholarly section of Contemporary Review of Political Thought (CRoPT). The section publishes critical assessments of recently published books and other significant scholarly works in political thought, political philosophy, intellectual history, Marxist theory, ideological and political education, higher education governance, and the normative dimensions of modern public life.
书评与评论（Book Reviews）是《当代政治思想评论》（CRoPT）的专门学术栏目。本栏目刊发关于政治思想、政治哲学、智识史、马克思主义理论、思想政治教育、高等教育治理及现代公共生活规范性问题等领域新近出版著作与其他重要学术成果的批判性评价。
The section seeks to advance informed scholarly engagement with important publications, emerging intellectual developments, and ongoing academic debates. It welcomes reviews that place individual works within their relevant intellectual and disciplinary contexts, examine their central arguments and methods, assess their contributions and limitations, and explain their significance for further research.

A scholarly book review should extend beyond a descriptive summary of the reviewed work. It should offer an independent, fair, and analytically grounded assessment of the work's argument, methodology, originality, scholarly contribution, and limitations, with attention to the debates in which the publication participates.
学术书评不应仅停留于对所评著作内容的描述性概述，而应围绕著作的论证、研究方法、原创性、学术贡献及局限展开独立、公正且具有分析依据的评价，并关注该著作所参与的相关学术争论。

The section welcomes critical reviews of academic monographs, edited collections, translations, critical editions, and other substantial scholarly publications relevant to the journal's aims and scope. Works suitable for review include, but are not limited to, the following:

Recently published scholarly works are particularly welcome. Earlier publications, newly translated works, or revised critical editions may also be considered when a review establishes their continuing or renewed relevance to significant scholarly questions. The value of a review is assessed through its analytical contribution rather than the publication date of the reviewed work alone.

Symposium Reviews, Comparative Book Reviews, and Responses to Reviews describe the form or purpose of a contribution and do not automatically constitute separate manuscript categories. Authors should select the appropriate available category in the journal's submission system and indicate the intended review format where relevant.

Article Category and APC: Accepted manuscripts formally classified as Book Reviews are exempt from the standard Article Processing Charge (APC) under the journal's current policy. Review Essays and Review Articles are separate categories and are not automatically eligible for this exemption. The applicable category and any fee treatment should be established in accordance with the journal's published policies.

Book Review Format / 书评写作与投稿格式
A standard Book Review should identify the principal argument of the reviewed work, place it within its scholarly context, assess its reasoning and use of sources, and discuss its contribution and limitations. Reviews should demonstrate familiarity with the work as a whole and provide a balanced evaluation supported by identifiable examples, passages, or arguments.

Length and Abstract / 篇幅与摘要
The journal's recommended length for standard Book Reviews is 1,000–3,000 words for English-language submissions. An abstract is optional for standard Book Reviews; where provided, it should not exceed 150 English words. Chinese-language submissions may use a corresponding length appropriate to their content and scholarly form.

Review Essays and Review Articles follow the journal-wide requirements applicable to those manuscript categories. The recommended English-language lengths are 3,000–6,000 words for Review Essays and 5,000–9,000 words for Review Articles.

Critical Assessment / 批判性学术评价
A review should accurately represent the author's central claims before offering criticism. Evaluation may consider the originality and significance of the argument, the appropriateness of its methodology, the interpretation of primary sources, the treatment of competing scholarship, and the implications of the work for subsequent research.
书评应首先准确呈现所评著作作者的核心主张，再提出批判性评价。评价内容可包括论证的原创性与重要性、研究方法的适切性、原始资料的解释、对竞争性研究成果的回应，以及该著作对后续研究的启示。
Critical judgments should be supported by reasons and relevant textual evidence. Authors should distinguish their own interpretations from positions explicitly advanced by the work under review and avoid attributing claims to an author that the publication does not support.

Review Essays and Comparative Analysis / 评论文章与比较分析
Review Essays may consider one or more works in relation to a broader theoretical question, intellectual tradition, research field, or current academic debate. They should move beyond the sequential summary of individual books and develop an independent argument that integrates critical evaluation with an identifiable scholarly contribution.

Comparative reviews should make their grounds for comparison explicit, including differences in historical setting, conceptual framework, evidence, methodology, or interpretive perspective. Review Articles should follow the broader methodological and literature-synthesis standards applicable to that manuscript category.

Independence and Conflicts of Interest / 独立评价与利益冲突
Reviewers should disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationships with the author, editor, publisher, or work under review that could reasonably affect, or be perceived to affect, their independence. Receipt of a complimentary review copy should also be disclosed where applicable.

Such relationships should be reported transparently for editorial assessment. Recommended Review Information / 建议提供的书目信息
Book Review submissions should identify the reviewed publication clearly and accurately. Authors should normally provide the following bibliographic information, as applicable to the edition being reviewed:

Bibliographic information should correspond to the particular edition consulted. When a review discusses a translation, revised edition, or critical edition, authors are encouraged to identify the relevant editorial or translational features and explain their significance where these matters affect the evaluation.

Editorial Expectations / 编辑要求与学术标准
Submissions should maintain a scholarly, independent, fair, and critically engaged tone. Reviews should demonstrate accurate understanding of the work under consideration, conceptual clarity, analytical depth, and sufficient engagement with the relevant literature. Criticism may be favourable, mixed, or strongly negative, provided that it is supported by transparent reasoning and appropriately represented evidence.

Academic Integrity and Fair Criticism. Reviews should avoid promotional writing, unsubstantiated allegations, personal attacks, misleading quotations, selective representations of the author's position, and unsupported claims about scholarly influence or originality. Critical evaluation should focus on the content, arguments, evidence, and methodology of the work rather than the personal characteristics of its author.

Book Reviews may undergo editorial review, external peer review, or a combination of both, depending on their scholarly content and form, in accordance with the journal's Peer Review Policy. Review Essays and Review Articles are assessed according to the requirements applicable to their respective manuscript categories.

Review Copies and Invitations / 样书推荐与书评约稿
Publishers, authors, and scholars may contact the editorial office to recommend books for possible review. Suggestions should identify the publication and explain its relevance to the journal's scholarly scope. Providing bibliographic information or an accessible description of the work can assist the editorial office in considering its suitability.
出版社、作者及学者可联系编辑部，推荐适合本刊评论的学术著作。推荐时应说明出版物的基本信息及其与本刊研究范围的相关性。提供完整书目信息或可供了解著作内容的资料，有助于编辑部评估其适配性。
The journal may also invite qualified scholars to contribute reviews of relevant publications. A recommendation, complimentary copy, or invitation does not itself constitute acceptance for publication. Review manuscripts remain subject to the journal's applicable editorial assessment, research integrity, and conflict-of-interest requirements.
