Intellectual History｜智识史
Intellectual History is one of the core scholarly sections of Contemporary Review of Political Thought (CRoPT). The section publishes original scholarship examining the historical formation, circulation, translation, reception, interpretation, and transformation of political ideas, concepts, texts, and intellectual traditions across different periods and cultural contexts.
智识史（Intellectual History）是《当代政治思想评论》（CRoPT）的核心学术栏目之一。本栏目刊发关于政治观念、政治概念、思想文本及思想传统在不同时期与文化语境中的历史形成、传播、翻译、接受、阐释及转化的原创性学术研究。
The section welcomes historically grounded research that connects close textual interpretation with broader intellectual, linguistic, cultural, institutional, and social contexts. Particular attention is given to the ways political ideas emerge within specific historical circumstances, acquire meaning through intellectual debate and social practice, and undergo reinterpretation as they move across periods, languages, communities, and cultural boundaries.

The section encompasses a broad range of historical inquiries into political ideas, intellectual traditions, conceptual change, and the social and institutional conditions of intellectual production and circulation. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

The section also welcomes studies of intellectual exchange beyond conventional national or regional boundaries, including the historical movement of political concepts through translation, education, publishing, migration, institutional networks, and other forms of cultural transmission. Such contributions should demonstrate a substantive connection to the historical study of political ideas or intellectual life.

Research Approaches / 研究路径与方法
Submissions may employ historical, textual, philological, contextualist, comparative, conceptual, critical, or interdisciplinary approaches. The section encourages scholarship that examines both the arguments and meanings articulated within intellectual texts and the historical conditions under which those texts and ideas were produced, circulated, interpreted, and transformed.

Historical Sources and Textual Interpretation

Where relevant, authors should identify the editions, translations, archival collections, manuscripts, published documents, or other sources upon which their interpretations rely. Historical claims should be supported by appropriate evidence, and the provenance, dating, authorship, and textual transmission of sources should be considered where these factors materially affect the argument.

Historical Context and Conceptual Change

Authors are encouraged to examine political concepts and intellectual arguments within their historical and linguistic contexts, including the debates, institutions, audiences, and communicative practices through which meanings were produced and contested. Studies of conceptual change should distinguish historically situated meanings from later interpretations and avoid projecting contemporary categories uncritically onto earlier intellectual traditions.

Translation, Reception, and Comparative Interpretation

Research involving translation, reception, or comparison across languages and historical periods should explain the relevant basis of comparison and, where necessary, identify significant translation choices and differences in conceptual usage. Authors should attend to the intellectual and institutional circumstances that shape the reception, adaptation, or reinterpretation of ideas rather than assuming that similar terms necessarily carry equivalent meanings across contexts.

Each manuscript category should follow the applicable journal-wide submission requirements. Original research articles should present a substantive historical, textual, or interpretive contribution. Theoretical essays, review essays, forum contributions, and book reviews should demonstrate critical engagement appropriate to their respective scholarly purposes and forms.

Editorial Expectations / 编辑要求与学术标准
Manuscripts submitted to this section should demonstrate historical sensitivity, textual accuracy, conceptual clarity, and argumentative rigor. Authors should identify a clearly defined historical, intellectual, or interpretive problem; explain the sources and analytical approach appropriate to their inquiry; and establish the contribution of their findings to existing intellectual-historical scholarship.

Submissions should move beyond purely chronological narratives, descriptive summaries of intellectual traditions, or unsupported claims about historical influence. Original research should articulate a clear question, develop a coherent interpretation supported by appropriate evidence, and explain its contribution to historical understanding. Review essays and book reviews should offer critical evaluation and historiographical contextualisation appropriate to their genres.

It does not privilege any single historical school, intellectual tradition, or theoretical position.
